2019: APC guber aspirant, Chris Akomas defects to PDP, endorses Atiku

Former deputy governor of Abia state and All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant during the October primaries of the party, Dr. Chris Akomas, has switched camp to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.

The ex-Abia deputy governor made his defection known when he led his supporters on a courtesy call on the State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, who was represented by his deputy, Ude Oko Chukwu, at the Government House in Umuahia, on Wednesday.

Speaking during the visit, Akomas expressed disappointment at the high-level marginalization of the Igbo by the APC-led federal government.

He made it clear that they would support any candidate who has the interest of the Igbo at heart, stressing that the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar fits the bill.

The APC stalwart explained that Abubakar has demonstrated his willingness to restructure Nigeria to give the South-East their rightful place in the affairs of the country if his elected as President.

He stated that with “the choice of Mr Peter Obi as his running mate, Alhaji Abubakar has all but confirmed his love for the Igbo.

“I want to use the opportunity to commend the government of Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for promoting made-in-Aba products, which has in turn given the entire South-East something to cheer about.”

In his response, Governor Ikpeazu welcomed and thanked the former APC chieftain and his group for identifying with the good efforts of the state government towards building a better Abia and Nigeria at large.
