Austin Meregini, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abia state, has alleged that the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nnia Nwodo has been commissioned to work against the interest of the Igbo race ahead of the 2019 general elections.
He accused Nwodo of working for former vice president, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) so as to prevent the people of South-east from voting massively for President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2019 general elections.
DAILY POST recalls that a coalition of Northern Elder’s Forum, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other ethnic nationality groups had passed a vote of no-confidence on Buhari over what they described as the President’s inability to find a lasting solution to the country’s problems.
Meregini, who spoke in a chat with DAILY POST on Sunday, said, “It is very unfortunate that the Ohanaeze, the socio-cultural group, has descended to this very low. President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo, I don’t think he consulted anybody before passing vote of no-confidence on President Buhari. What he used that body to express were mere personal opinions.
“We know all that Nwodo has a personal … with former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar. And what he is trying to do now is to promote the agenda of PDP, promote the agenda of Atiku.
“On what basis is he passing a vote of no-confidence on Buhari? Is it on the basis that Buhari has done a lot now to stop the looting of public funds? Is it on the basis that Buhari has done a lot to start work on the second Niger bridge which has eluded Ndigbo for close to fifteen years now? Is it on the basis that Buhari has started clearing the long old debt of Aviation workers following the grounding of Nigerian airways by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo?
“So, this purported vote of no-confidence passed on Buhari by Ohanaeze is condemnable. What they should do is that if he has any reason to support Atiku, he should come up as an individual. Let him stop playing politics with the group.”
The APC chieftain claimed that the people of the South-east have embraced Buhari and would massively vote for him in the coming election in order to ensure the interest of the zone was well protected at the national level.
He said nobody passed a vote of no-confidence on Buhari rather Ndigbo are solidly behind the President come 2019. “And we are going to work for him. We are going to deliver bulk votes for him. Because we, Ndigbo, knows he is genuine. We know that he is committed to take this country to a greater height. Most of these killings in the country they are accusing him about are being politically motivated. We know all this. They want to call a dog a bad name in order to hang him”.
“If Buhari got ten percentage of votes in South-east in 2015, come 2019, he is going to get more than ten percentage. This is an established fact. A whole lot of stakeholders in the South-east zone are behind him. You talk of former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Ogbonnaya Onu, Sullivan Chime, Jim Nwaobodo, Orji Uzor Kalu and a whole lot of them”.
“So, no matter the petty manipulation Nnia Nwodo-led Ohanaeze Ndigbo are doing, it can never work. Let them not try to deceive people.”
