A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Enyi C. Enyi on Wednesday called on the federal government to wade into the alleged attack on its members by thugs allegedly loyal to the Ebonyi state government.
Enyi, who was a former minority leader of Ebonyi state house of Assembly, made this call while reacting to the beating to pulp of one Chika Nwoba, a social media critic in Ebonyi state.
He expressed thenfear that the attacks of its members, if allowed to continue, may prevent majority of APC supporters in Ebonyi from participating in the forthcoming 2019 general election in the state.
Enyi said the action was undemocratic, noting that only government that was afraid of defeat could indulge in such ungodly act.
“That very action of is undemocratic. So, I condemn it in its entirety and enough is enough”.
The chairman urged law enforcement agencies to stop at nothing to unravel the culprits, adding that anybody who had issue with the victim should have rather sued him rather than sending thugs to attack him.
He said Chika was a peace loving citizen who only reacts and comments on issues the way he sees them on social media.
In a swift reaction, the governor of Ebonyi state Chief David Umahi through the chief press Secretary, Emmanuel Uzor dissociated the state government from the alleged incident.
“Without dignifying these people whose stock in trade is to pour their frustration on the governor with a response, let me say it that the Governor is so busy to recognize the victim or whatever he represents and couldn’t have had any hand in his ordeal as doing such will amount to killing a fly with sledge hammer.
“The Governor has respect for sanctity of human life and has done everything to protect every citizen of the state irrespective of their political standing and has never and will never send anybody to attack another person for whatever reason,” he stated.
