The Presidential candidate of the Grassroots Development Party of Nigeria (GDPN), Dr. Davidson Isibor Akhimien, on Thursday signed peace accord at the Matthew Hassan Kukah Centre, Abuja.

Speaking at the ceremony, Akhimien, a former military Chief lauded the National Peace Committee, saying that the his commitment to peace, before, during and after the election was in the interest of national unity.

He said the initiative will eliminate violence that has become a recurrence during elections.

“Peace accord is a very good Initiative of the National Peace Committee because Presidential candidates and political parties must commit to ensuring free, fair, and credible elections. ”

“More especially, violence should be completely eliminated from our electoral process. ”

Akhimien pointed that African countries have challenges in growing their democracies, stating that the amended electoral bill, which President Buhari declined assent was not healthy for the nation.

“It’s not in good taste that Buhari declined assent to electoral amendment bill. It’s one of the challenges to African democratic transitions and consolidations. Nigeria should not be part of that malaise”, he stated.

He called on President Buhari to be committed to free, fair and credible elections, noting that his predecessor, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan ensured a conducive atmosphere for his emergence in 2015.
