2019: Akpabio reveals how Udom’s re-election will be achieved in Akwa Ibom

As the 2019 general elections draws closer, former governor, Godswill Akpabio has reiterated his commitment to ensure that Ikot-ekpene senatorial district supports the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel as the stakeholders of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, from Eket senatorial district (Akwa Ibom South) have intensified consultations across the state.

The Senate Minority Leader stated this weekend at his hometown in Ukana Ikot Ntuen, Essien Udim LGA when the stakeholders came on consultation visit to solicit his support for the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2019.

Chief Akpabio who said the consultation was very important in lubricating democratic ideals expressed satisfaction over Udom Emmanuel’s performance so far, assuring that leaders of his senatorial district would always take decisions that would promote their interest and development.

Akpabio who is also the political leader of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District promised that his wife-Unoma Akpabio who was the chief campaigner and grassroots mobilizer during his tenures and the first tenure of governor Udom Emmanuel would join Udom’s re-election campaign.

He, however, recalled the important roles played by his wife in mobilizing both men and women during the previous campaigns in the state ,saying that she is capable and ready to repeat same.

His words, “I assure you that my wife, Mrs Ekaete Akpabio is going to join the women of this state in campaigning for the Governor’s re-election. She is ready to receive her campaign materials and learn the campaign songs when the time comes.”

Earlier, the stakeholders who came for the consultation were led by Chief Nduese Essien, a former Minister of Lands Housing and Urban Development.

Speaking, Essien said, “I thank Ikot Ekpene senatorial district for your support towards the emergence of Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2015 and the continued support to his government. We request you to also support him to do his second term just like the other governors from Uyo and Ikot Ekpene.

” He has performed beyond expectation despite the financial crises in the country and he has used his ingenuity to ensure the spread of projects and political appointments across the state because of his background in financial management.

“There are so many ongoing projects and when given the support, in second term in office he will get those projects completed and the foundation he has laid will blossom.”

Other Eket stakeholders, Chief Obot Etukafia and Dr. Esio Oquong Udo in their separate and brief remarks recalled that Akwa Ibom, since 1999 had maintained 8 years tenure arrangement for the governor’s seat and tasked Ikot Ekpene senatorial district on intensified grassroots mobilization so that their votes would count in 2019.

Those in attendance during the consultative meeting were members of House of Representatives and State House of Assembly, members of the state executive council, local government chairmen, chapter chairmen of PDP, members of the state working committee of the party, and former political office holders in the state from both senatorial districts.
