It has been reliably gathered that some aides of the Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, have reportedly resign their appointments.
The aides who are six in number and part of the state Executive Council tendered their resignation letters in compliance with the directive of the governor that all his political appointees who have expressed interest to run for political offices in 2019 should resign on or before Monday (tomorrow).
The six political office holders who have put in their letters are the Commissioner for Agriculture, Gboyega Adefarati; Commissioner for Land and Housing, Donald Ojogor; Commissioner for Commerce, Timehin Adelegbe; and the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Omowumi Olatunji.
Also affected by the governor’s directive are the Special Adviser on Rural Development, Victor Olabimtan; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr Jibayo Adeniyi who also put in their letters.
It would be recalled that the governor in a circular signed by his Chief of Staff, Gbenga Ale on Friday had directed that all political appointees in the state who have obtained their nomination form ahead of the 2019 election should resign on or before Monday 17th September 2018.
The circular reads in part: “Following preparations towards the 2019 general elections and subsequent expression of interest of some Executive Council members to contest for political offices, Mr. Governor has directed that any member who has obtained nomination form to contest election into any political office is to put in his/her letter of resignation on or before Monday, 17th September, 2018.”
Some of the appointees, who have obtained the nomination form had earlier signified their interest of representing their constituencies in the green and red chambers of the National Assembly.
