New head coach of South Africa, Stuart Baxter, has vowed to give Nigeria “a game”, when both countries face each other in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier next month.
Both nations missed out of the 2017 edition staged in Gabon and are seeking to make a return to the next edition billed for Cameroon.
Baxter, who has signed a five-year contract to replace Ephraim ‘Shakes’ Mashaba, was unveiled in Johannesburh on Monday.
“I hope we will be very competitive with Nigeria. We will give them a game,” Baxter told media.
“We need to be competitive and players will do it the South African way; that should reflect the play in the country.
“I believe the nation has enough players to succeed and I also believe in my abilities; I’m very optimistic.”
