Super Eagles defender, Ola Aina has opened up on his back-heel pass that resulted to the team’s first goal at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Aina spoke with the Super Eagles Media team ahead Nigeria’s clash with Cameroon on Saturday.
The former Chelsea star also talked about replacing Jamilu Collins in the left-back role and the loss against Madagascar.
”It has been up and down but you know these things they don’t come easy.
”We have Cameroon next but we just treat it like any other game, we have to be focused and hopefully we can come out with a good result,” he said.
On covering up for Collins in the left-back, he said, ”I don’t mind, at the end of the day I have to do a job, that’s what I ‘m there to do, I’ll do it to the best of my ability every time.
”I always give my best. I feel fine, I feel good, I feel at ease so it’s okay.”
Speaking on the back-heel pass, he explained, “I am going to take you through this now. Alex gave me the ball, I took my first touch inside, there’s no way I can back-heel to Alex, there’s just no way because I’m here, Alex is there, Ighalo is there, Alex wasn’t running, he was already standing looking.
”Everyone must have thought I was going to pass to Etebo or Ndidi but I saw Ighalo and I just tried and it came off.
”It’s just something, when it comes in the mind you just try it and if it happens to come off right, it does.”
On Super Eagles 2-0 loss to Madagascar, Aina said, “This is football, we have up and downs, it’s not always easy but I’d say the team always try our best once we get on the pitch, that’s what we try to do.
”We try to do our best and we always try to win every game so that’s what I can say. You stick with us, always support us.”
