2019: ADC aborts Oyo ward congress, appoints 7-man committee

The National Working Committee (NWC), of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has set up a 7-man committee to take over the party structure in Oyo State from the coordinator of the party and former Secretary to the State Government, Chief Olayiwola Olakojo.

DAILY POST gathered on Wednesday that the decision to appoint the 7-man committee to take over the party’s structure from Olakojo was due to the alleged hijack of the party structure in the state by the Oyo-born politician, Olakojo.

The NWC in a communique obtained by DAILY POST also shifted the ward congress earlier scheduled to hold on 4th August to 7th August.

Below is the communique obtained by DAILY POST on Wednesday:

Communique after National Working Committee (NWC) meeting of African Democratic Congress (ADC) held on 31st July , 2018 at the party Headquarters Wuse, Abuja.

“After extensive deliberation on how to position the party for the next general elections as well as party Congresses earlier scheduled to hold in some states of the federation with special focus on Oyo State which is scheduled to hold on 4th, 7th, and 11th August for ward , local and state respectively. The NWC hereby resolved as follows:

“To allow for an inclusive Congress as well as to give room for new entrants to the party to register their members The ward Congress scheduled to hold on the 4th has been shifted to 7th August, same day with the local government Congress. While the ward Congress will hold in the morning the local one will be in the afternoon.

“To give a level playing ground to all stakeholders, a 7- man Committee has been inaugurated by the NWC to take over from the state Coordinator, Chief Layiwola Olakojo. The Committee is to oversee the party Congresses in the state.

“The party therefore directed chief Olakojo to hand over all party materials in his custody to the Commitee as he ceased to be the state Coordinator, once the Committee has been inaugurated. Since there is no room for Cordinatorship in the party constitution.

“The NWC then enjoined all party members in the state to be of good conduct in a bid to entrench party internal democracy which will devoid of crises”.
