Ahead of the 2019 election, no fewer than 50,000 members of the Green Party of Nigeria, GPN, have defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Sokoto State.
They announced their defection at the residence of the Chairman, Northern Senators Forum, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, when leaders and members of the party paid him a courtesy visit.
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman of the state chapter of GPN, Nasiru Garba Kalambiaina said, “About 50,000 of us defected to APC as a result of the exemplary leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“We are also pleased with the giant strides of the President, Senator Wamakko and all the APC’s flag bearers, at all levels.
“We are therefore assiduously committed to working, to ensure the realisation of the lofty ideals of the party, as well as its victory, at all levels, during the forthcoming general elections.”
Also speaking, the state secretary of the party, Dr. Kabir Dasuki said, “It was a painstaking decision that had to be taken and series of deliberations were made to reach this conclusion.
“The members of the party decided to join forces with APC so as to defeat PDP and ensure we win the forthcoming elections.”
