The Super Eagles will begin training on Tuesday in preparation for Friday’s first-leg second round fixture in Lobamba for their FIFA World Cup 2018 qualifier against Swaziland.
Toyin Ibitoye, Super Eagles Media Officer, who disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, said the decision to begin training on Tuesday followed the slow pace of players’ arrival.
Ibitoye said only the goalkeepers trained on Monday, as there were only eight players in camp as at 4 p.m.
They are Wolvehampton Wanderers of England goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, Sunshine Stars’ Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu based in Portugal.
Other players are Chima Akas, Austin Oboroakpo, Paul Onobi, Jamiu Alimi of Shooting Stars and Watford striker Odion Ighalo.
The Eagles Media Officer said Alimi replaced injured FSV Mainz defender Leon Balogun.
“We are expecting others to arrive; you know they played league games yesterday (Sunday), so, they are expected to come one by one today (Monday).
“All the coaches, including Sunday Oliseh, are already in camp but the training will commence fully Tuesday evening’’, Ibitoye said.
He also told NAN that the team would depart the country on Thursday morning onboard a chartered flight.
NAN reports that Oliseh had invited 23 players to camp including Seattle Sounders FC striker Obafemi Martins for the encounter against Swaziland. (NAN)
