2018 World Cup: Rojo reveals what he expects Lionel Messi to do against Nigeria, others

Manchester United defender, Marcos Rojo, has disclosed that he expects Argentina captain, Lionel Messi to help Jorge Sampoali’s side to top group D ahead of Nigeria, Croatia and Iceland at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Rojo is confident that the Barcelona star will help the La Albiceleste progress to the round of 16 during the tournament.

Jorge Sampoali’s side will open their World Cup campaign against Iceland in Moscow on June 16 before games against Croatia and Nigeria on June 21 and June 26 respectively.

Rojo expects Messi to be a key player for Argentina at the World Cup.

He, however, admitted that Argentina are in a difficult group with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

”We give everything when we are wearing it and we want payback for the way things happened at the last World Cup,” Rojo told Manchester United’s official website.

”We will do everything to give our fans the possibility to celebrate winning the trophy again.”

Rojo added: ”We’ve got Nigeria again. I think it’s three or four times now we’ve been drawn with Nigeria and it will be a difficult group.

”Croatia and Iceland are in there too. Hopefully, Lionel Messi will be in form and can do something for us.”

Rojo scored the winner for Argentina in their 3-2 win over Nigeria during the group stage at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The Manchester United star went on to played in the final of the tournament which they lost 1-0 to Germany.
