2018 World Cup qualifiers: Zambia coach prays for Super Eagles defeat in Cameroon

Head coach of Zambia, Wedson Nyirenda, is hoping that Cameroon will be up for revenge, when they host Nigeria in a 2018 World Cup qualifier on Monday in Yaounde.

Nyirenda led his side to a 3-1 win over Algeria on Saturday , 24 hours after the Super Eagles hammered the Indomitable Lions 4-0 in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

The win at the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka, meant Zambia end their World Cup jinx against Algeria, thanks to brace from Brian Mwila and a late strike from Enock Mwepu. Yacine Brahimi pulled one back for the North Africans.

“It was not an easy game for us, it was a big challenge for us but all in all our main was to get the three points which we have achieved so that we stay in the race.

“Nigeria lead the group but I believe Cameroon can beat them on Monday and hopefully we also win our game,” Nyirenda told Lusaka Times after the game on Saturday.

Zambia who lost 2-1 to Nigeria on Match Day 1, are currently second in Group B and will be guests of group leaders, the Super Eagles, on October 7.
