2018 World Cup: How Argentina could help Nigeria qualify from group stage – Rohr

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, has explained how Argentina could help Nigeria qualify from the group stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Rohr is hopeful that the South American giants win their Group D matches against Iceland and Croatia so that they wouldn’t play under pressure when they meet the Eagles in their last group game on June 26.

Nigeria is drawn alongside Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in Group D of the tournament. The Super Eagles first two matches are against Croatia and Iceland.

Rohr said that Argentina are favourites on paper to top the group.

However, Rohr is not ruling out his team to spring surprises as he hopes to get a good result against Croatia and Iceland while Argentina remain a major headache.

The German told Besoccer, “Nothing is impossible. The only solution against Messi is a collective and not an individual solution. We will have time to observe.

“If Argentina wins its first two games, Messi may not want to play against us, that’s another possibility.”

Nigeria thrashed Argentina 4-2 in a pre-World Cup friendly last November.
