2018 World Cup: Argentina’s injury crisis deepens with Banega, others affected

Argentina manager, Jorge Sampaoli faces a major injury crisis with concern over the fitness of another key member of the team, Sevilla’s Ever Banega.

Recall that the Albiceleste on Friday announced that West Ham star, Manuel Lanzini has been ruled out of this year’s tournament in Russia after picking a knee injury in training.

The Southern Americans also lost first choice goalkeeper Sergio Romero who sustained injury in training during the early days of their preparations for the World Cup.

“Banega has an injury and missed two training sessions,” Argentina physical trainer, Jorge Desio told TyC Sports.

Desio, however, allayed fears on the fitness of striker Sergio Aguero, who missed the latter of the season with English club, Manchester City.

“Sergio Agüero is fine and never stopped training.

“The team is well physically, in the conditions we expected,” he added.

Argentina will open their 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign against Iceland on June 16 and then face Croatia and Nigeria respectively.
