As Ekiti State prepares for the 2018 governorship poll, former Acting Governor , Hon. Tope Ademiluyi and a group under the auspices of Ekiti West Youth Movement(EWYM), have counseled Ekiti to vote for a selfless governor, who can return the state to the path of progress.
They said what has been the greatest impediment to the development and progress of Ekiti was the penchant for sitting governor to abandon the policies initiated by the past administration due to political differences and hatred.
Speaking at a youth summit in Aramoko Ekiti on Tuesday, Ademiluyi, said that disjointed and policy somersault in Ekiti governance accounted for why the state was still witnessing epileptic power supply, high youth unemployment and political thuggery 21 years after creation.
Those who delivered lectures at the forum included: Senator representing Ekiti Central, Mrs Fatimat Raji-Rasaki, Commissioner for Agriculture in Ekiti State, Hon Kehinde Odebunmi, Prof Kehinde Oluwadiya, Barrister T. Akingbade , Mr. Gbenga Ogedengbe and the President of EWYM, Com. Dada Adebowale.
Ademiluyi said: “On July 14, electorate must vote a governor who understands the people and their sufferings. Those who can connect the past with the present to bring a greater future and not those that will hijack the government and abandoned the past”, he advised.
In his lecture, Ogedengbe lamented how youths, who constituted over 70 per cent of the population of Ekiti have been so neglected by successive governments, describing the scenario as very disturbing.
“Today in Ekiti, there is no single thriving industry, salaries and pensions are not paid regularly , most of our towns like Ipole, Erinjiyan and Ikogosi have no light for the past three years, you have abandoned projects here and there just because our governments are only interested in promoting their own interests and that of their parties.
“So, we must jettison pecuniary interest and vote the right governor in the coming election who can build on the achievements of the past rather than abandoning the projects of past governments”.
The President of the group, Adebowale and Prof Oluwadiya in their presentations stated that the body has no political interest.
