The Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has called out the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and South South senators in the National Assembly, for allegedly conspiring against President Muhammdu Buhari.
The group wondered why the budget allocated to the construction of Second Niger Bridge and that of construction of the Terminal Building of Enugu Airport were slashed under the nose of the Deputy Senate President without the lawmaker uttering a word.
While signing the 2018 appropriation bill into law yesterday, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Buhari had expressed concerns that it would be difficult for the purpose of the 2018 budget to be achieved due to some changes made by the National Assembly.
But in a press release signed by MURIC Director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, the group also expressed surprise that the federal lawmakers from the South South region allowed the budget for the Niger Delta University to be slashed from N5 billion to N3.4 billion, adding that Senator Ben Bruce did not stand against the “dehumanization.” The group insisted that members of the National Assembly were out to to drag the masses on the floor.
MURIC’s statement reads in part, “Wonders will never end. Otherwise where was the deputy senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremadu when the budget for the Terminal Building of Enugu Airport was cut from 2 billion Naira to 500 million Naira? Is he not from Enugu State?
“Can the Igbo people still say that Buhari does not like them? The wind has blown. We have seen the ruff of the hen.
“Where were all the senators from the South South when the budget for the Niger Delta University was being slashed from N5 billion to N3.4 billion?
“Et tuSenator Ben Bruce, did you also support this dehumanization? No, it cannot be. It must have been done in your absence, perhaps during the recording of one of your famous interventions.
“Why are our politicians determined to drag the masses on the floor and trample upon them as they lie face-down? What kind of wickedness and insensitivity is this? Who did this to Nigeria?”
