2017 budget: Fashola appears before Reps, denies disparaging lawmakers

Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has tendered an unreserved apology to members of the House of Representatives on his alleged offensive comments on the 2017 budget.

The minister who appeared before the honourable members alongside his aides as early as 9.45am told the Aliyu Madaki-led adhoc committee that there was no time he deliberately disparaged the National Assembly as alleged.

The House had summoned Fashola to answer questions on the allegations that the House messed up with the Ministry’s 2017 budget.

Fashola had alleged that the Budget for Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project was reduced from N31 billion to N10 billion.

He had also claimed that 2nd Niger Bridge budget was reduced from N15b to N10b(actually N12b to N7b); that about N3 billion or so was removed from Okene-Lokoja-Abuja Road; that the Budget for Mambila Power Project was also cut.

The investigative hearing is still on-going.

Details soon…
