Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Danladi Umar has solicited increased funding of his agency to enable it carry out enormous responsibilities it was saddled with.
In his budget presentation before the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges in Abuja on Tuesday, Umar noted that nothing short of N1.22 billion proposal for year 2017 would do the agency good, stressing that the reduction was not in the best interest of an arm that should be independent.
“I have discovered that the sum of N446million was reduced from the proposed N1.227,602,692 which was proposed for the fiscal year, a situation that is in sharp contrast to 2016 budget which stood at N1,673,627,085,” he maintained.
He also disclosed that the CCT has 99.92 budget performance for 2016 which was based on releases by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
Breaking down the figures, he said: “out of the N1.22 billion proposed this year, N405, 126, 258 is meant to cover personnel cost, 271, 476,434 going to overhead; and N551,000,000 for capital cost.”
He further added that the tribunal recorded a total of N845,822 as unspent balance performance based on what was appropriated and it stood at 61.2 percent.
Meanwhile, Senator Dino Melaye, a member of the Committee commended CCT Chairman for the ongoing project executions by the tribunal across the federation.
“I think the progress of various projects meant for CCT which the committee saw during our oversight functions were commendable and those contractors are also doing well,”the lawmaker said.
He, however, called for sustainability of the projects by the code of conduct tribunal once the 2017 appropriation was passed into law by the National Assembly.
