2016 budget will facilitate Nigeria’s economic diversification -Gbajabiamila

The Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Mr Femi Gbajabiamila on Sunday declared that the 2016 budget was a good economic policy that would facilitate Nigeria’s economic diversification.

Gbajabiamila told newsmen in Abuja as President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration marked one year in office that the budget was a major achievement of the government.

According to him, the budget is a good economic policy of the current administration and it will facilitate economic diversification in the country.

He also commended the Federal Government for its strides in the anti- corruption fight.

Gbajabiamila urged Nigerians to be patient with the government, saying that there were signs of positive socio-economic developments.

He said that the government needed time to work, and that it was early for critical assessment of its efforts.

“The framers of our Constitution gave a term of four years to any president; they could have said two or three years but they believe it will take that long for the people to assess what you have done.

“You can access someone now and in two years that assessment would change.

“So I think we need to be patient; give the government the four years that the Constitution has given to it and enough time to access the government,’’ he said.

According to him, given what this government found on ground, given the prevailing economic situation in all oil producing countries in the world, I think this government has done a remarkable job.

“What this government has done in trying people for corruption is unprecedented in Nigeria and there lies the change,’’ Gbajabiamila added.
