The National Assembly Joint Committee on Appropriation on Wednesday submitted a detailed document of the 2016 budget to the clerk of the assembly for onwards transmission to President Muhammadu Buhari for his assent.
The Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin submitted the 1,800 paged document to the Clerk to the National Assembly, Salisu Maikasuwa, at about 5.07pm which will be transmitted to the President.
Jibrin while addressing newsmen after laying the details said the committee worked for days to clean up the budget and break down the details.
Noting that the National Assemble has done its part, Jibrin said all is set for the President to play his part by assenting to the budget.
On whether the details were exactly what the President submitted to the National Assembly in December last year, Jibrin said the legislature exercised its power of appropriation to allocate resources in the budget.
Jibrin said, “We have worked on the details. Naturally, there will be inputs from the lawmakers and there will be inputs from the executive.
“Our job is to find a middle course. We have done our part and we expect Mr. President to play his own part.”
The 2016 budget submitted to the the joint session of the National Assembly last December was passed on March 23 after much delay but the President had refused to put his assent pending when details of the budget is sent to him.
