A Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe says the state Chairman of the Party, Felix Obuah lacks the right to punish any aspirant contesting on the platform of the party.
Sara-Igbe said this in reaction to the threat issued by the state Chairman, Felix Obuah who warned its governorship and other aspirants to play by the rules and be guided by the provisions of Article 58- one of the party’s constitution of 2012 as amended.
Obuah threatened that disciplinary actions would be taken against errant members.
He stressed the need for aspirants contesting on the party’s platform to show decorum and stop making scathing statements that could bring the name of the party into disrepute.
However, in a telephone interview with our correspondent, Sara-Igbe stressed that Obuah would not have issued such threats if he truly understood the party constitution.
The PDP Chieftain further insisted that the issue of who becomes the party governorship flag-bearer would not be decided by the leadership of Felix Obuah.
“I am so surprised that Felix Obuah can quote section 58 of the constitution. When he took the party to court he forgot that section. When he was suspending House of Assembly members, he did not remember that section 58 is very clear.
“When we are talking about zoning in the party constitution he did not remember the section.
“I think he should be ashamed of himself for threatening to suspend any member that disobeys the party constitution when he does no obey the same constitution, that he will sanction people who spent millions of naira to buy nomination forms and he is there trying to truncate their efforts.
“He want to collect the money from them and eat it. He should know that he cannot hoodwink or hand twist any of them.
“Justice must prevail in Rivers State. He (Obuah) thinks he can control the PDP in Rivers State with impunity.
“PDP in Rivers State does not belong to his father, his mother, or his friends. PDP belongs to all Nigerians”, he said.
