Barely forty-eight hours after holding talks with former President, Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital, four Northern Governors – Aliyu Babangida of Niger, Musa Kwankwaso of Kano, Sule Lamido of Jigawa and Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto, on Monday held a similar meeting with two former Military Heads of State, Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalami Abubakar.
DailyPost gathered that the parley centered on the 2015 general elections as well as other issues, including the state of the nation’s economy, the crisis rocking the ruling People’s Democratic Party, the Nigerian Governor’s Forum among others.
Babangida, who praised their bold step in finding lasting solution to some national problems, described himself and his three other colleagues as “real patriots.”
IBB in a session with journalists after the meeting said, “I just want to commend the Governors here and some of their colleagues.
“I was very impressed because they see the problem of this country as our problem and they have taken the right step to consult widely in trying to find solution to some of the leading problems. “They are real patriots. I am very happy and I told them so.”
Speaking earlier on behalf of his colleagues, Aliyu said the meeting was a platform that could be used to actualize political dreams.
The Niger helmsman said, “Now we are consulting with our elders and leaders to look at some of the problems and solutions to the problems that some of us perceived we are facing.
“The solution to Governors Forum crisis, political issues, which have come up and we are consulting to make sure that we all understand the issues and we all come out with solutions and we will also carry our people together as we go along, adding that “we are still consulting.”
On the lingering crisis in Rivers State, he said: “There is no gathering in Nigeria now that Rivers’ issue will not come up, but our meeting today is a larger issue than even the Governor’s Forum. “We are discussing on how to solve them.”
The governors arrived 12:00 noon, while the two retired Generals arrived in a Blue S500 Mercedes Benz, with registration number, AE 323 WSH.
