Kano State Governor and one of those bidding for the All Progressives’ Congress, APC, presidential ticket, Alhaji Rabiu Musa Kwakwanso yesterday stormed Calabar, the capital of Cross River State where he held a closed-door meeting with the immediate past governor of the state, Mr. Donald Duke.
Reports say the meeting which took place at the Diamond Hill residence of Duke lasted over an hour.
Even though the detail of what was discussed remained sketchy, informed sources say the meeting was used to strategize on how Kwakwanso’s can secure a “landslide win in the state and other parts of South South states where Duke commands influence”. The Kano State Governor has been on a nation-wide consultation drive to drum up support for his presidential ambition.
His visit to Calabar attracted his supporters who were clad in their trade mark Babariga with red caps to match. They were seen all over Calabar, including Transcorp Hotel along Murtala Mohammed Highway.
At Transcorp Hotel, where most of them converged, chants of the Kwakwansyya slogan intermittently took over the place.
Duke, who served for two terms as governor of Cross River State on the platform of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is known to have close ties with the APC. He is also believed to still command considerable influence in the state.
