The National Women Leader of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Kema Chikwe, yesterday said President Goodluck Jonathan will contest and win the next presidential election.
The former Aviation Minister while speaking at the presentation of the “PDP Women-In-Power 2013 Calendar” said Jonathan was qualified to seek another term in office.
Drumming support for Jonathan’s ambition, she said, “We need to start moving fast to prepare women for future elections. Until we elect 35 per cent or more of women in the legislature, the impact of our progress will not be complete.”
She also advocated the entry of more women into politics, saying they should see the race to the next general elections as one which requires their participation.
In what was seen as an obvious campaign speech, Chikwe noted that “We are even more confident that when President Goodluck Jonathan returns in 2015, women would be talking about 50 per cent and not 35 per cent. As we give him unequivocal, undiluted, unresolved and unlimited support, and as we march with him to 2015, PDP women will reach the promised land.”
The PDP National Working Committee member told the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim, who represented the President at the occasion, to convey their deep gratitude to the Father of the Day, President Jonathan.
“Tell him that PDP women are chanting to Nigeria. All we are saying is give us Goodluck,” she sang.
On her part, the First Lady, Patience Jonathan who was in attendance, appealed to the Senate to pass the controversial N4bn for the building of the Africa First Ladies Mission office in Abuja.
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Mohammed, had already included the project in the 2013 budget proposal of the ministry.
Meanwhile, the president and his aides continue to play down reports on the aspiration to return to office in 2015.
Presidential Adviser on Political Matters, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak in an interview said news about his boss‘ 2015 ambition was structured out of people’s imagination.
