A renowned Niger Delta activist and frontline resource control campaigner, Alhaji Mumakai-Unagha, weekend, affirmed that President Goodluck Jonathan has the right to run for second term come 2015, but cannot be seen as a messiah to the South-South region as many people would want to believe.
Alhaji Mumakai Unagha, while addressing newsmen in Warri, Delta State, said if “President Jonathan cannot address the problem of the region, from available indications, the South-South will be worse at the end of his administration.
“The living standard of the people has not changed for the better and the hapless people have simply surrendered their faith to God. This is the simple truth and I challenge the President to a debate on what achievements he has brought to the lives of people of the zone in terms of social political and economic development.
“I can tell you that the President will not get the full support of the zone in 2015 unlike in 2011, when every Niger Deltan took it as a challenge.”
Mumakai-Unagha, pioneer vice president of National Youth Council of Nigeria, South-South zone, lamented that political appointments in the zone were hijacked by one ethnic group to the disadvantage of others.
“Mr. President has failed the zone, the people have to look elsewhere, they have no other choice in taking the decision, otherwise, they will be suffocated.”
