Jega
The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) Lagos State chapter has raised alarm that the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, is not capable of conducting a free, fair and credible election in 2015.
The group made this claims following the poor distribution of Permanent Voters’Cards, PVCs, in the state.
CNPP in a press statement signed by its Chairman, Hon. Akionla Obadia, said this became evident following an assessment of the first batch in 11 Local Government council areas in the state.
“What borders us is the lacklustre performance of INEC, knowing well that Lagos is one of the most populous states based on population registration; therefore, they ought to have been more prepared for this important exercise. For INEC to have come with kids gloves to face the enormous population of Lagos State is a disaster.
“A visit to Mushin, Ajeromi Ifelodun, Badagry and Ikeja Local Government areas as a case is a clear manifestation of INEC’s unpreparedness for a free and fair election in 2015”, he explained.
The chairman said INEC had a lot to explain in order to convince Nigerians that it was not rolling out Jonathan’s hidden agenda.
“We are confident that 2015 will roll out God’s agenda for Nigeria but INEC should not start complicating issues.
“We, the CNPP in Lagos State, therefore, appeal to the management of INEC to retrace their steps now and remember that Nigeria is larger than any minacious agenda”, he concluded.
