Barely 48 hours after many Igbo groups vowed to work against President Goodluck Jonathan’s second term ambition, a motion for his endorsement by the Ohaneze Ndigbo also failed on Saturday.
The motion was moved by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu during ‘Imeobi’, a meeting of the apex Igbo socio-cultural group.
This is even as the Amb. Mbazulike Amaechi-led elders’ council have insisted that the tenure of the present Ohaneze administration, led by the President General, Chief Enwo Igariwe has expired.
Mbazuruike,a first republic minister for aviation had set-up a 19-man transitional caretaker committee to steer the leadership of the body on January 7, following the expiration of the incumbent administration.
In an expanded meeting of the body at Ohanaeze Ndigbo national secretariant in Enugu, the motion for Jonathan’s endorsement was vehemently shut down following disagreement from various interest groups.
Leading opposition to the motion, the South-East Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Osita Okechukwu queried Ohanaeze’s leadership on the achievement’s of President Jonathan in the South-East geopolitical zone that should prompt his endorsement.
Consequently, the motion for Jonathan’s endorsement, which was put forward by Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu was not seconded, prompting the adjournment of the meeting to no definite date.
DAILY POST correspondent, who was at the venue, equally reports that the meeting was poorly attended.
A source hinted that most members were disgruntled over the alleged tenure elongation plot of the present administration.
However, in a 5-point communique issued at the end of the meeting, the Ohaneze leadership defended its position, insisting that its tenure would run for four years.
