The Amir of The Muslim Congress (TMC), Imam Luqmon AbdulRaheem, on Sunday advised Muslims to use their voter’s card wisely to recreate the Nigeria of their dream.
He gave the advice in a speech entitled: “Engaging with the Society” he delivered at the 1436 Muharram get-together held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Muharram get-together was organised by the TMC to sensitise Muslims on the commencement of the Islamic New Year.
The Imam urged Muslim faithful to cast their votes for candidates who they believe are truthful and God fearing.
“Enough of mediocrity, enough of politics of the stomach, enough of amala politics,” he said.
He said that the solution to the challenges facing the nation would be found if the citizenry change their attitude by voting wisely.
“We need a change of heart and not change of policies and constitution. It is not the constitution that has been corrupted but the man,” he said.
AbdulRaheem listed moral decadence, bribery, corruption and rigging of elections as some of the societal ills truncating the growth of the nation.
He called on Muslims to be committed to the development of the nation by casting their vote wisely in the 2015 general elections.
“We look forward to a nation where justice and peace reigns; where the healthcare system provide health and render care; where the judiciary demonstrates independence and schools deliver quality education.
“We look forward to a country where jobs are created and the quality of life of the citizens is improved,” the Imam said.
