Former presidential candidate in the 2011 general election and immediate past governor of Kano State, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau has said he will not contest the 2015 presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC with General Muhammed Buhari.
His statement is coming few days after eminent northern leaders settled the protracted political rift between him and General Buhari.
It was gathered that both Buhari and Shekarau are among the many northern politicians eyeing the APC’s presidential ticket, which is reportedly zoned to the North.
The presidential candidate of the now rested All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, confirmed that his political tussle with General Buhari has been resolved and that they have all agreed to work together.
Shekarau who spoke through his media aide, Mallam Sule Yau Sule said he does not take any contest as a do-or-die affair and that he is ready to take any position offered him under APC.
“Shekarau contested for the presidential election in 2011 because they were in different political parties with General Buhari. Now that they are in the same party, he will not contest against General Buhari because he holds him in high esteem and he is ready to abide by whatever General say. He has said that he will not contest if General is contesting.” Sule said.
He also confirmed the meeting of General Buhari and Mallam Shekarau in Kaduna, saying that at the meeting, the two frontline politicians have agreed to work together for the success of APC in the country.
The political war between the duo could be dated back to 2005 when the General rejected the invitation of Shekarau to flag off the tricycles he purchased under the ‘ A Daidaita Sahu’ programme.
“They fed General Buhari with concocted lies about Mallam Shekarau in order to bring friction among them. They succeeded to a very large extent but the same people have now left the General’s camp. General Buhari has confessed recently on Radio France that people around him sabotaged his campaigns,” a source said.
