2015: Fashola urges voters to elect leaders that will continue developing Lagos

Ahead of the 2015 elections in Lagos State, Governor Babatunde Fashola has charged voters in the State to ensure they elect leaders who will be able to build on the foundation laid by his government and the previous one for a continued development of the state.

The Governor, who made this known while presenting the 2015 budget estimate of the state, asserted that with the level of work so far done in Lagos State and the concomitant successes recorded, the state will require someone with vast experience in governance to step into his shoes so that he can easily continue from where he will stop.

Fashola went on to state that the budget presents an opportunity for everyone in the state to take full advantage of, but cautioned that the choice of his successor will make a great difference in the eventual outcome.

Hear him: “There is something in this budget for everyone. Men and women, young and old, and for those who are physically challenged.

“Its successful implementation will be dependent on the kind of men and women who take control after this administration. This leads me to the issue of choice that is upon us; as the 2015 general election beckons.

“This state has worked because we managed it with the sense of responsibility and dedication that is required to give inclusion and hope to 21 million people of diverse ethnic, religious and cultural dispositions.

“This state has worked because an APC government is in charge here and the work is a work in progress, recording success after success.

“This state is too strategic to itself, to Nigeria, and to West Africa and the World at large to be entrusted to beginners to experiment with.

“In choosing your next leaders you must choose sensibly to ensure that budget performance does not drop below 70 percent, so that projects like the Light Rail, Adiyan Water Works, Odo-Iya Alaro, Lagos Badagry Expressway, Lagos Homs, and so on, can be completed by the party and the team that started them, with men and women who have imbibed an ethos of daily service against election season propaganda and unfulfilled promises.

“Our record of budget performance of not less than 70 percent is not matched anywhere else, the Governor declared.

While linking the reliance of most Nigerians on generating set for energy to the failure of the PDP-controlled Federal Government to effectively implement budgets, Fashola enjoined Lagosians to make sure they vote to keep such budget inefficiency at bay in Lagos. He added that they should use their ballots to sustain the budgetary discipline and efficiency already achieved by the current administration in the state.

The Governor however had some harsh words for the Independent National Election Commission, INEC, which he noted have surpassed itself in inefficiency and disorganization.
