A mild drama was staged at the House of Representatives today (Wednesday), as Tony Anenih, chairman, Board of Trustees,BOT, of Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, and Femi Gbajabiamila, Minority Leader, exchanged words over which party will reign supreme in 2015 elections.
Gbajabiamila who found his way through the security mounted at the entrance of the Speaker’s meeting room, 414 where Anenih and members of the BOT were being hosted by the Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal, was informed by the security details that the meeting was strictly for PDP members.
Inside the meeting room, Gbajabiamila approached the Chairman of PDP BoT, who jokingly offered the ACN chieftain a seat beside him ‘with offer of PDP ticket’. But in a swift response, the infuriated Gbajabiamila responded thus, “we will see in 2015″.
While responding to Anenih’s statement, Tambuwal vowed that the House would continue to checkmate the Executive in line with the provisions of 1999 constitution (as amended).
He said “we have been working closely with the party and the executive arm of government to do exactly what we have campaigned for on the platform of our party. “We will continue to give Nigeria the best as an arm of Government, and as representatives of the people”.
Earlier in the speech, Tony Anenih, Chairman of Board of Trustees,BOT, of the Peoples Democratic Party ,PDP, dismissed calls for convocation of Sovereign National Conference,SNC.
Anenih said “I have told the people asking for Sovereign National Conference that, there is nothing National as National Assembly”.
He further avowed that the meeting was aimed at discussing the insecurity in the country, relationship between the Executive and the Legislature, as well as the relationship with the party and other arms of government.
Anenih had maintained that the National Assembly has demonstrated professionalism through various laws it had passed in recent times, stressing that National Assembly was capable of addressing security related issues as it concerns the nation at the moment.
