20 PDP State Chairmen pledge allegiance to Tukur faction


Twenty state chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party have expressed full support for the Bamanga Tukur led faction of the party.

They made the declaration in a communique issued after their meeting at the national headquarters of the party in Abuja on Monday.

Emmanuel Agbo, Chairman, Conference of PDP State Chairmen said the chairmen were deeply worried over the current crisis, expressing hope that it would be resolved very soon.

The delegation which later met with the embattled National Chairman, pledged not to allow a replay of what is happening at the national level, repeat itself at the state level.

The chairmen also declared their support for Tukur and President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda.

States that were represented at the meeting include: Benue, Ekiti, Zamfara, Kaduna, Katsina, Oyo, Cross River, Adamawa, Yobe, Kogi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Nasarawa, Ondo, Lagos, Gombe, Ogun, Osun, Plateau and FCT.

About 16 state chairmen, mostly from the north, boycotted the meeting. No reason was given for their absence. They are; Chairmen of Kano, Sokoto, Kwara, Niger, Jigawa, Abia, Enugu, Eboyin, Imo, Anambra, Taraba, Kebbi, Borno, Bauchi, Delta, Edo and Bayelsa.

Meanwhile, the factional chairman of Rivers PDP, Felix Obuah says the party no longer recognizes the state governor, Rotimi Amaechi as a member.

Speaking after the Abuja meeting, he said he was ready for any peace talks, that will resolve the issues confronting the party in the state.

He however stated that he will not “step down as chairman”, even if it is a condition necessary to resolve the impasse.
