2 remanded in Agodi prison for planning to unleash mayhem

President of a Mapo Grade `A’ Customary Court in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, Imoleayo Akinrodoye on Wednesday ordered the remand of two suspected miscreants at the Agodi Prison.

The two accused, Ridwan Adebayo, 23, and Muritala Ogundare, 29, were docked for alleged unlawful possession of dangerous weapons and threat to life.

Akinrodoye ordered the duo of Adebayo and Ogundare to be remanded after they pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of unlawful possession of weapons and conspiracy.

Akinrodoye, however, adjourned the case till Jan. 23, for a review of facts and sentencing.

Police prosecutor, Ayodele Ayeni had earlier told the court that the duo committed the offences on Jan. 5, at Adelabu Memorial Grammar School area, at about 2.30 p.m. in Ibadan.

Ayeni said that the accused perfected their plan to unleash mayhem on the residents of the area before they were apprehended by the police.

He alleged that Adebayo and Ogundare were caught in possession of two wraps of Indian hemp and a machete, which they intended to use to unleash mayhem on innocent residents.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 516 and 506 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.
