$2.1bn arms deal: EFCC traces N650m to Thisday Publisher, Nduka Obaigbena

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, investigating how $2.1bn money meant for the procurement of arms disappeared from the Office of the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki, rtd, has detected another line of payment made to companies linked to Thisday publisher and owner of Arise Television, Nduka Obaigbena.

The investigators said Obaigbena was paid at least N650million from a questionable transaction with Dasuki.

According to Sahara reporters, a source from EFCC said Obaigbena, has dropped out of sight since the discovery and all attempts at reaching him have failed.

Speaking with Sharareporters yesterday, Obaigbena who is also the Chairman of the Newspaper Proprietors Association Of Nigeria, said he was in New York, adding that prior to his trip to New York, he had been at meetings in London, and will return to Nigeria when he is through with his visit.

Obaigbena admitted that his newspaper company received a letter from the EFCC and a response had been sent explaining what they know about the case involving Raymond Dokpesi’s Daar Communications.

The anti-graft agency had last week arrested Dokpesi for collecting N2.2bn from the office of the former NSA however he and his family had since come out to give conflicting reports as to why Dokpesi received the money from Dasuki.

Obaigbena insisted hat he has never received any money from Dasuki, a point strongly disputed by EFCC investigators.
