18-year-old girl arraigned for attempted murder


An 18-year-old girl, Chidinma Sunday, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos for stabbing a man, identified as Francis Ikemefuna.

The teenager was arraigned on a four-count charge of felony, assault, threat and attempted murder.

While testifying in court, the prosecutor, ASP Godwin Eze, said the girl had on May 6 around 8:30 pm at 14, Hyacinth Madueke, Abulu-Ado in Ojo area of Lagos, committed the offences.

Eze said, “The accused had on the said date attempted to kill Francis Ikemefuna by stabbing him with a kitchen knife.

“Similarly, Chidinma assaulted Ikemefuna, thereby causing him serious injuries on his left leg with intent to kill him.”

He said the offences contravened Sections 56, 171, 228, and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Magistrate Teslimi Shomade admitted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He added that the sureties must be blood relations of the accused and must provide a two-year tax clearance.

Shomade consequently adjourned the case till June 26.
