The Adamawa Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has confirmed the death of fifteen persons after a truck conveying cows and passengers lost control on a bridge and plunged into a river.
The sector commander, Adegoke Adetunji, told newsmen in Yola that the accident occurred at about 10p.m. on the Ngurore Bridge on Yola-Numan Road.
He, however, said many others have equally been declared missing.
He disclosed further that the dead bodies of the victims had been evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, and Specialists Hospital, Yola before the arrival of FRSC personnel at the scene.
“I received a call at about 22:00 hours on Sunday that there was a crash on Ngurore Bridge on Yola-Numan Highway.
“On arrival at the scene, we discovered that it was a truck carrying cows and passengers that lost control and fell into the drying river.
“Six dead bodies were deposited at the Federal Medical Centre and nine at the Specialists Hospital, although the numbers of injured persons is yet to be ascertained.”
He further urged motorists to avoid driving in the night and stop transporting human beings and animals in the same vehicle.
