14 killed in Maiduguri as soldiers, Boko Haram engage in gun battle

The Joint Task Force on Operation Restore Order in Borno has said that, it lost one of its soldiers during an operation in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital at about 1600 hours today (Tuesday).

A statement from the office of the spokesperson, Lt Col. Sagir Musa, which was made available to newsmen in Maiduguri revealed that the troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Operation restore order had an encounter with Boko Haram Terrorists at Bulabulin and Bayan Quarters of Maiduguri.

According to the statement, during the encounter, the JTF lost one soldier and 2 were wounded, but the statement further said that the operation was successful despite the death of the soldiers as thirteen Boko Haram Terrorists were gunned down during the operation.

The statement said, civilians were well protected and had no casualty recorded during the encounter, adding that the operation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the gang and recover more weapons.

It also said that 3 AK 47 rifles, 1 rocket propelled grenade and a large quantity of assorted ammunition and IED materials were recovered during the operations.
