A police source while commenting on the incident said the hoodlum upon kidnapping the girl, took her to the kingpin’s residence and later demanded N10m ransom.
“When the police got the information about the kidnap, they expanded their dragnet to other neighbouring towns and villages. During investigation, we got the wind that the girl was in Chiedu’s family compound in Ubulu-Uku. We rescued the girl who was in a pathetic condition. The young girl was bound arms and legs. She narrated how she was assaulted.
“Well, the kingpin escaped but we arrested three of the gang members in their hideout at Igbodo, a neighbouring town. We are still looking for three other gang members, the source said.
The community was said to have erupted into jubilation after the rescue of the 13-year-old gir andl the arrest of the kidnappers.
Confirming the news, spokesperson for the community, Okonji said, “we had not witnessed such an abomination in our community until the day the police rescued the little girl. We are happy today that the hoodlums that have brought shame to us have been identified. Now that we know them, we know what to do about them. Our joy is that the discovery and arrest will serve as deterrent to others. If the kidnappers had succeeded, they would have continued with their evil act.”
