The Police Commissioner of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Wilson Inalegwu on Tuesday said the police has arrested 12 notorious armed robbers who had been terrorizing residents of the FCT.
While parading the suspects before newsmen, Inalegwu said operatives attached to the command rounded up the suspects at various points in the nation’s capital.
The CP stated that the suspects have been terrorising residents of the territory for over four years.
According to Inalegwu, the suspects specialized in robbing housing estates in Lubge and Nyanya areas of the FCT.
He said, “Their modus oparandi is that when they find their ways into the estate, they shoot sporadically into the air to scare residents of the estates.“
Inalegwu noted that the gang were behind the recent robbery attack that resulted in the killing of some Fulani herdsmen at Pyakasa, in Lugbe area of Abuja. He also noted that the suspects were responsible for the recent robbery at super cell estate, Apo where six houses were raided, two women killed and two others injured.
The police recovered the following items from the suspects: five AK 47, 11 fabricated revolver rifles and three pump action guns. Other items are; one fabricated barreta pistol with magazines, one fabricated AK 47 rifle with magazine; one fabricated SMG; two English pistols and nine magazines; 254 live cartridges; 58 AK 47 live ammunition and 15 expended AK 47 ammunition.
The Commissioner added that 12 exotic cars and 18 different number plates were also recovered from the gang.
He further stated that investigation has been concluded and other members of the gang who are on the run would be apprehended soon.
“We have concluded our investigation and they will soon be charged to Court,“he said.
