12 killed as truck, bus collide in Ogun


No fewer than 12 persons yesterday lost their lives at Ilishan Junction, along Sagamu/Benin Expressway, Ogun State, when a DAF truck carrying a container had a head-on collision with a Mazda bus.

The incident was said to have claimed the lives of five females and seven males, among whom were students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University.

However, only one passenger survived the crash but sustained serious injury, and was taken to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu area of the State for medical attention.

The corpses were said to have been deposited in a mortuary in Sagamu area of the State.

It was gathered that the driver of the truck marked BDG 779 XE who was driving against traffic rammed into the bus which was on its way to Lagos.

The state police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the crash.

“We got a report from Sagamu that an accident involving a DAF truck and Mazda commercial bus occurred at Ilishan Junction along Sagamu/Benin Expressway on Friday. The driver of the truck was said to have driven against the traffic and had a head-on collision with the bus heading to Lagos.

“Twelve people died; five females and seven males. Some of the victims were said to be students of OOU,” Adejobi affirmed.
