1000 Enugu residents benefit from Ugwuanyi’s free medical outreach

At least 1000 residents of Enugu State in Nkanu-West Local Government Area of Enugu State have benefited from Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi medical outreach.

The free-medical exercise, being facilitated by a member of the Enugu House of Assembly, Hon Iloabuchi Aniagu was tagged: “Gburugburu Comprehensive Medical Outreach.”

DAILY POST reports that beneficiaries of the one-week long exercise cut across the 14 political wards in the council area.

The outreach included: free blood pressure, sugar and malaria tests; free medical consultation and talk; free eye screening, eye drops and glasses; free drugs and insecticide treated nets for pregnant women and children as well as medical referral.

Addressing newsmen in Obuoffia Umueze community in the council area during the flag-off of the outreach, the facilitator of the programme, Chief Iloabuchi Aniagu, said that the medical outreach was “a way Governor Ugwuanyi is saying thank you to the people of the state’’.

Aniagu, who is the member representing Nkanu West State Constituency, noted that Governor Ugwuanyi was giving back to the people by bringing free and comprehensive medical care to the door-step of the people.

This is also as he hailed the existing cordial relationship between the Executive and the Legislative arm of government in the State.

“You can see it, there is peace in Enugu State. There is harmony, great understanding between the Executive and the Legislature. Everybody is happy with the level of peace in this State and that accounts for the level of development in the State.

“Governor Ugwuanyi is concerned about our people accessing quality medical care especially those that are financial and physically weak to go to the hospital.

“He intends to use this comprehensive medical outreach lasting over a week to get to our elder ones, children and the poor.

“For the past eight hours, which commenced from 8 a.m. today; the medical team here had attended to 825 residents within the three wards meant to be covered by this centre and we believe that before nightfall we must had hit over 1,000 residents,’’ he said.

According to him, the outreach medical team is made-up of 20 doctors, five pharmacists and seven nurses to ensure speedy attendance of the residents.

“We used town criers to call them out of their houses, farms and markets this morning; while before today we have done local radio announcement and written to various churches and community President-Generals concerning the outreach,’’ he said.

A community leader, Mr Emma Agbo, lauded the governor and the facilitator for bringing the outreach to uplift the living condition of the people and removing them from illness and ignorance.

“This is pure human kindness in action; where the leadership is thinking of how to touch the people even in their remote and rural areas,’’ Agbo, who was a retired Permanent Secretary in the state civil servant, said.

One of the beneficiaries, Pa Anthony Ngwu, who was given a free eye drop and pair of glasses, thanked the governor and the Nkanu West representative for their gesture and kindness.

“For some time I have remained indoors due to sight challenge; but I can now see clearly to attend to all my needs and even continue with my farming activities,’’ Ngwu said.

Another beneficiary, Mr Sunday Ani, who was treated for malaria and given packs of anti-malaria drugs, thanked the governor for the outreach and his people-oriented leadership style.
