The chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Solomon Adeola has stated that a 100 percent Permanent Voter Card, PVC, collection before election is not possible due to a variety of reasons.
Speaking to hundreds of APC youth leaders from Lagos West Senatorial District, who paid him a solidarity visit ahead of the March 28, 2015 election, Hon. Adeola said from INEC statistics, Lagos state had attained 81% PVC collection, adding that the collection rate will definitely improve further before the end of time allotted for collection.
“It is not possible to have a 100% PVC collection. Lagos has attained 81% as at last count. Some people would have been deceased while others like Youth Corp members would have relocated from where they registered and may not want to make effort to go to their old location”, he said.
He stated that those complaining of PVC collection at this point were not prepared for the election and that they were only dreading their imminent defeat at the polls.
Hon Adeola urged the youth leaders to continue to preach for those with PVCs not to sell their cards as some political parties were bent on disenfranchising even those that already had PVCs.
He said he was going to organize for the first time in the history of the district, youth symposium with eminent resource persons as a way of identifying problems confronting youths and a channel for empowerment schemes.
He called on the youths to work hard for the desired change that was coming, adding that “since the advent of our nascent democracy in 1999, this is the first time that the opposition is far ahead of the ruling party in popularity and rating by reputable polling organisations”.
The leader of the youths in Lagos West, Mr. Lukmon Jimoh said the APC youths in the district were poised to deliver all wards in the district to APC as people were tired of PDP rule in Nigeria.
