Although the JTF has confirm three people to have been killed in an Improvised Explosive Device at the Post Office roundabout in Maiduguri, suspected to have been planted by the members of the Jamatul Ahlis Sunnah lid Dawa wal Jihad, Popularly known as Boko Haram, hospital sources have confirmed that, they received 10 bodies at the Specialists Hospital as a result of the blast that occurred on Sunday.
While confirming the incident, the spokesman of the Joint Task Force (JTF) Lt. Col Sagir Musa in an email statement sent to newsmen in Maiduguri said “an Improvised Explosive Device targeted at JTF patrol team exploded at the Post Office Round About in Maiduguri metropolis at about 1:00 pm today, Wednesday 20 February, 2013.
According to the JTF, the explosion led to the death of 3 civilians including the bomber and wounded 2 others. A JTF vehicle was also damaged” . .Lt Col. Sagir Musa said that the JTF reiterates its determination to continue to maintain law and order in Borno State .
In a related development, the JTF has called on the general public to disregard some leaflets allegedly printed and circulated by members of the Jamatul Ahlis Sunnah lid Daawa wal Jihad that the sect has not entered into any dialogue with the Federal Government.
The statement said “ the JTF attention has been drawn to a newspaper leaflets that the Boko Haram Terrorists containing message from leader of sect, Imam Abubakar Shekau threatening and warning government, civil servants, politicians, traditional rulers and security agencies that the sect has not made any reconciliation with the government and that it has not declared cease fire.”
The JTF spokesman further said the Task force wishes to inform law abiding members of the public to totally disregard such publication and consider it a part of the terrorists’ propaganda to keep the civil populace in captivity and perpetual fear with the view to unleashing more terror on innocent citizens.
It would be recalled that the denial came barely a month when some members of sect led by its Commander incharged of North and Southern Bornu, Sheik Abu Muhammad Ibn Abdul-Aeez declared ceasefire.
