10 countries to feature at 24th Enugu International Trade Fair


The United States of America (USA), Canada, Netherlands, India and South Africa are among the over ten countries expected to participate in this year’s 24th Enugu International Trade Fair

The fair, according to the organizers is slated for March 15 TO 25, 2013.

President of the Enugu Chamber of Commerce, Industry Mines and Agriculture (ECCIMA), Dr Theo Okonkwo, who briefed newsmen, Tuesday on the preparation for the fair said security has been beefed up within and around the permanent site of the fair along Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway with a view to keeping off criminals in the area.

He said that a lot of foreign companies had also indicated their interest to showcase their products at the fair, which shall be declared open by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Dr. Okonkwo who stated that the theme of the this year’s Fair is “Promoting the Nation’s Economic Environment as Investment Destination of Choice in Africa and for Effective Global Competitiveness”, disclosed that Agriculture would be given special attention during the fair.

His words: “the Agriculture sector will remain a major fulcrum in our specially designated area during the fair, in order to boost Agricultural production and commercial farming in particular”.

The ECCIMA President said the Enugu Chamber would commence the sensitization tour and consolidation of its marketing next week with visits to stakeholders both in public and private sectors in Lagos, Abuja and across the Southeast as well as South-South zones.

“With the many enquiries and strong interest being received from both local and foreign firms, we are hopeful that there will be higher and quality participation this year, just as we recorded last year too.

We have done very well in the past especially since we started hosting our fairs at the permanent site three years ago. We give God the glory and will consolidate our efforts in this direction specially with the emerging security dimension in the country”, he added.

He also commended the press for their co operations in giving adequate coverage to the fair, hoping that they would continue to receive the support and understanding from members of the public in the efforts to improve in their past activities.
